The KO Chiefs signed a partnership agreement as owners of Wataynikaneyap Power with the company that will build the transmission line to connect their First Nations. Executives from FortisOntario and RES Canada and Ministers Gravelle (MNDM), Mauro (MNRF) and Chiarelli (MOE) were present to provide their support. 20 First Nations are united to lead the project into the next planning phase with their industry partner. Chief Chris Kakegamic spoke on behalf of the KO First Nations; "Diesel fuel is expensive, dangerous and harmful to our land. Our communities will not be limited by generators. It is our vision that this project will support the investments we have made in renewable energy".
